Abbie Jamieson Cup winners 2011/12 - Shooters A

The first all in cup of the season, the Abbie Jamieson Cup (sponsored by the Croft Tavern, Stockethill Crescent), saw another final being again dominated by the form team of 2011/12 - Shooters A. The match, played on Thursday 22nd December 2011, saw Shooters A triumph by a scoreline of 8 frames to 2 against a quality Shady Shooters team.

This was, however, a closer match than scoreline suggests with a good few frames that could have gone either way between two top quality teams who are currently sitting first and second in division one. Both teams named a strong starting line-ups filled with international players.

Shooters A got off to a flyer...

The first of the ADPL Competition Finals days took place on 3rd December 2011 at Sh88ters, with Phillip Craig and Martin McIntosh out to defend the title they won the previous season. With the live stream being tested out on one of the tables for the first time every in the ADPL there was plenty of last minute touches being done to appearances and a clamber was on for players to showcase their talents to the World Wide Web!

First up on the 'TV' table in the last 32 saw Phil Craig Snr and Lindsay Ahern edge out Jeff Burnett and Kevin Daglish 3-2. Shock of the last 32 saw Steve Wilson and last minute substitute James 'Hendo/Earl' Henderson beating one of the pre tournament favourites Mike 'Village' Kelly and Darren Matthew. A result I am sure the Mikey and Dazza wont be allowed to forget for a while from Hendo. Also through to the last 16 with comfortable victories were Simon Mitchell and Richard Cradduck, Kev Coutts and Stevie Annal and defending Champions Phillip Craig and Martin McIntosh.

Tie of the last 16 saw Andy Eagar...

Daz wins with the Lions down under
    Aberdeen's British Lion Darren Matthew

Aberdeen's former 3-time World Junior champion Darren Matthew recently returned back from Australia where he was representing the British Lions select team against the Australian national side in a series of 5 test matches. The Lions came out winners of the series by virtue of a 4-2 shootout win after the 5th test. Darren played well throughout the series with a 4th best record of 9/15 and a crucial frame against Ron Kelly in the shootout.

Darren qualified for the event from a top quality field of 32 qualifiers from around the UK at an event held in Leicester. Also present at the qualifier from the ADPL but unluckily missing out were Martin McIntosh and John Falconer. Thanks to Sh88ters for sponsoring all 3 players to attend the national qualifier.

The lions team was made up of Darren Matthew...

Congratulations to Findlay Anderson on winning the first ADPL Junior Event beating Reece Reid 4-0 in the final. Findlay was the outstanding player of the day winning all 22 frames played to lift the trophy !

This first event was held at Sh88ters on Saturday 24th September and was a great day of pool for the juniors in attendance.

I would like to thank all boys for turning up and making the day a success and look forward to seeing you all at the next event.

The event format was 2 groups of 6 and then knockout from the semi-finals ensuring a lot of pool for the juniors in attendance.

Titch Captures the 2010/11 Division 1 Singles Title

    ADPL News

The 2010/11 Division 1 Singles took place on Saturday 26th March at Rileys Bridge Place Aberdeen. As ever the finals day featured a strong line up of 32 of the best pool players in Aberdeen all competing for the prestigious title. The event kicked off at 12.30am on 8 tables which had been prepared by Rileys to an excellent condition for the day. Straight away it was apparent how seriously the local pool players were taking the event with the amount of soft drinks being sold by the club! Reigning champion Chris Lawrie was on hand to run the event having already been knocked out of the competition in the last-64 stage. The day passed quickly with some excellent pool being played which meant the final was completed by 7pm. Richard 'Titch' Bruce ran out eventual winner to take his first major ADPL singles title after several years trying. Titch held his nerve to defeat Aberdeen's best player in the last 10 years, Mike Clark, 7-5 in a close final.

The day got off to a prompt start with the exception of Philip Craig whose late arrival resulted in a docked frame against John Falconer and Derek Ahern who just made it in time for his match with Andy Reid Jnr. John went on to win 4-1 and Andy squeezed through 4-3 in a marathon match. Shock of the round came with Ross Moir overturning a 3-0 defecit to beat Simon Mitchell 4-3. Dave Martin also saw off Nicky Duncan 4-1, and James Durno beat one of the favourites Ian Daniel 4-1 in a welcome return to the small table game for James. Tie of the round saw Mike Kelly edge it in a deciding frame against Scott proud. Othe rmatches saw walkovers for George Henderson and Aaron Greig, comfortable wins for Mark Gravener, Richard Bruce, Steve McGonagle, Mike Clark, Steve Wilson, Graeme Cusine and a 15 min 4-1 demolition of Craig Birnie by Darren Matthew in awesome form.

Round 2 saw wins for most of the favourites...
